Elizabeth A. “Betty” Wyer, age 92, of Sturgis, passed away Saturday morning, June 13, 2026, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville.
She was born March 13, 1934 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Ralph and Frances (Fox) Nuttle.
Betty lived her early life in Collingdale and Darby, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Darby High School with the Class of 1953.
On September 10, 1955, she married Jack S. Wyer in Collingdale, Pennsylvania. Following their marriage, she moved to Sturgis. In 1991, she and Jack began wintering in South Texas, and in 2004 they became full-time residents of the Lake Corpus Christi area of Texas. They remained there until returning to Sturgis in 2015.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She also worked for Montgomery Ward in Sturgis for several years. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center in Sturgis, where she faithfully served as church secretary.
A talented and creative woman, Betty enjoyed arts and crafts and was actively involved in the community. For many years she performed with the Sturgis Civic Players and generously gave her time as a Girl Scout leader, positively influencing the lives of many young people.
Surviving are her husband of more than 70 years, Jack Wyer of Sturgis; two daughters, Deborah Merrick of Kendallville, Indiana, and Dawn (Jeff) Hecht of Centreville; one son, Jack (Tiffany) Wyer of Natchitoches, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with a tenth great-grandchild expected soon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lorretta Cave; and one brother, Ralph Nuttle.
In honoring Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, will be held at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
