Kalamazoo health department confirms virus in mosquito pool

Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Environmental Health Division has confirmed its first positive case of Jamestown Canyon Virus this season.

Confirmation came from a mosquito pool that was sampled as part of the county’s routine summertime mosquito surveillance. Mosquitos collected in such a manner are typically of the same species.

Agency officials said they plan to continue mosquito surveillance and testing through the end of September.
