Man arrested after suspicious attempted transaction

Branch County Sheriff’s Department deputies last week arrested an out-of-state man who attempted to make a purchase totaling several thousands of dollars with fake identification.

Sheriff Fred Blankenship said deputies were summoned around 11:30 a.m. Friday to Planet Powersports in Coldwater in response to a suspicious attempted transaction.

The suspect, a Chicago man, was attempting to purchase a pair of Jet Ski personal watercraft and a trailer with what turned out to be a fraudulent form of identification.

The suspect fled the scene on foot when deputies arrived, Blankenship said. However, the department’s K-9 unit was called in and eventually located the suspect.
