St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department members joined the Amish community last weekend for the first “St. Joseph County Amish Safety Day,” a community event focused on helping keep families safe.
Sheriff Chad Spence said Saturday’s event brought together Amish families and public-safety agencies to discuss roadway safety, emergency preparedness, CPR and other topics.
Organizers estimate that more than 200 people attended.
Spence said the greatest success of the event beyond attendance was the number of meaningful conversations.
Spence said he looks forward to working with the Amish community and its public-safety partners to continue promoting roadway safety throughout St. Joseph County.
