Burr Oak and Sturgis schools consider food service partnership

A partnership for food service is being proposed between St. Joseph County’s largest and its smallest K-12 school districts.

Sturgis Public Schools Superintendent Art Ebert said finance director Ray Sterling noted Burr Oak Community Schools has inquired about a food-service partnership. The proposal would involve Taher Inc. Food Service.

If a deal is reached, Burr Oak would be designated as a sight district under Sturgis Public Schools, Sterling said.

Ebert said if the agreement is approved, Taher would hire personnel to prepare meals for Burr Oak students at the Burr Oak site.

The proposed contract would be a three-year agreement between Sturgis and Burr Oak Schools, and cost Burr Oak $20,000 the first year $20,600 the second year and $21,200 the final year.
