Doris Jean Bucher, age 84, of Mendon, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. She was born on July 16, 1941 in Senath, Missouri to Clyde and Edith Burton.
On January 15, 1959, Doris married the love of her life, James F. “Jim” Bucher in Benton Harbor. Together they shared more than 61 years of marriage until Jim’s passing in 2020. Their marriage was built on love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family. After many years in the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph areas, they eventually made their home in Mendon, where they enjoyed a quieter pace of life together.
Family was the center of Doris’ world. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved. She had a gentle spirit, a caring heart, and a quiet strength that brought comfort to everyone around her. Her kindness, patience, and unconditional love will be remembered always.
Doris worked as an accountant in the Benton Harbor and St. Joseph area, where she was respected for her dedication and attention to detail. In retirement, she found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed spending hours at her computer researching politics and current events, always eager to learn something new. She also loved sitting along the St. Joseph River, watching the wildlife drift by, finding peace in nature and the beauty of everyday moments.
Doris is survived by her two children; Cynthia Lacey and Rob (Lisa) Bucher; eight cherished grandchildren; Jason, Michael, Dakoda, Morgan, Alexis, Duncan, Murron, Molly, and Blake; one beloved great-grandchild, Tucker; and one great-great-grandchild, Wrenley; along with extended family and many dear friends. She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, James Bucher; her son, James Bucher, Jr.; her siblings; Windy Burton, Carolyn Anders, and Bonnie Taylor; and her parents, Clyde and Edith Burton.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, quiet wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
