Kayakers rescued on St. Joseph River

Two kayakers caught in Friday’s storm were rescued by emergency personnel after one of the watercrafts capsized.

St. Joseph County Central Dispatch officials said a call for help was received shortly after 4:30 p.m. in response to a water rescue along the St. Joseph River near Withers Road in Constantine Township.

Constantine Fire Department and Centreville-Constantine Police Department responded to the scene, where they found two females who had made it to shore.

One of the two women managed to reach the top of a steep embankment, while the second woman required assistance from authorities to reach the top.

The women suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
