Michigan Nurses Association has filed a lawsuit against Sturgis Hospital, alleging the hospital violated federal law by failing to properly notify employees before closing its doors a month ago.
According to News Channel 3, the lawsuit was filed July 10 and claims the hospital violated the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
The WARN Act requires employers to provide at least 60 days advance notice before a plant closing or mass layoff.
In the suit, the union alleges it was notified just three days before Sturgis Hospital closed June 19. According to the lawsuit, at least 50 full-time employees lost their jobs, including the 17 registered nurses represented by the Michigan Nurses Association.
They didn’t warn patients either!
