Michigan ranks near the bottom of U.S. states, if you believe a new ranking from U.S. news. It looked at factors people might consider when looking for a place to live.
Michigan came in at No. 46 on the 2026 Overall Best State Rankings list released earlier this week. Health care, education, crime, the economy and more were evaluating factors. Other states in the bottom of the list were Arkansas, New Mexico, Mississippi, Alaska and Louisiana.
For what it’s worth, the Top 5 states in order were Utah, South Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota and Nebraska. It’s the second consecutive year for Utah at the top spot according to the U.S. News.
I suggest you look at the other caretegories produced by US News’s Best icluding coll for more than aeges, hospitals, etc. They have been debunked for more than a decade for their shoddy metrics and personal “favortism”/ connections versus analytic journalism. But its a catchy market headline!
