Two injured in Cass County car-versus-deer incident

Two people were injured in a car-versus-deer incident earlier this week in Cass County’s LaGrange Township.

Sheriff Clint Roach said a car driven by 76-year-old Cassopolis resident Roger Wegner was eastbound on Kingsbury Road at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Wegner swerved the vehicle to avoid a deer in the roadway. As a result, he lost control and the car ended up leaving the road, overturning and striking a tree.

Wegner and his passenger, 71-year-old Susan Wegner, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

They were treated at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
