Update on cyclosporiasis outbreak

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services gave an update on the Cyclosporiasis outbreak on Monday. In Cass and St. Joseph counties, nearly 30 people have been confirmed to have contracted the disease.
Those numbers are relatively low, as the MDHHS said more than 9,000 people in the state have been affected by the parasite. The next update from the MDHHS is scheduled to be released on Thursday.
Cass and St. Joseph counties have been designated as a low concentration. More than 70 counties in the state have confirmed cases since the initial outbreak in late June. The foodborne illness is caused by a microscopic parasite which can contaminate fruits and vegetables.
