Duane “Harvey” Conrad Carpenter, age 91 of Climax, MI passed away at his home unexpectedly on August 16, 2026. He was born in Union City on November 24, 1934 the son of William Carpenter and Hester Vance. Harvey attended school in Flint, and graduated in 1952. He would later join the United States Army and proudly serve his country for two years. For 30 years, Harvey worked at General Motors Fisher Body plant in Kalamazoo. He was a master tinkerer, constantly working on his old tractors, tending to his garden with his wide variety of produce, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Harvey took many trips to the U.P. for memorable camping trips, wintered in Arizona to spend time on his four-wheeler causing havoc in Tonto Basin, and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines during football season.
Harvey is survived by his two daughters, Lark Carpenter and Wendy Carpenter (Marcia Slagle); his wife of 25 years, Lillian Carpenter; his sister, Beverly Sprowls; and many nieces, nephews, and extended families. He was preceded in passing by his parents, William and Hester Carpenter; and his siblings, Doyle, Carmelita, and Raydeen.
Funeral services for Harvey will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:30am at Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene (7520 E U Avenue, Vicksburg, MI 49097) with Pastors Ashely and Brian officiating. A private burial will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery where Harvey will receive military honors from the United States Army.
