Federal funds will help with Michigan rail lines

The state of Michigan won a big chunk of federal money to help fix a train rail line.

Michigan is bringing in $145 million in federal funds to help fix the rail line between Detroit and Chicago. A total of $98 million will go to the track between Dearborn and Kalamazoo while $29 million is set aside for rebuilding four (4) bridges and $18 million will be used to replace the Blackman Road Bridge in Jackson.

The new trains are a separate plot. Federal equipment grants are buying 43 trainsets nationally and Michigan’s share covers all three (3) Amtrak routes — the Wolverine, the Blue Water and the Pere Marquette.

There was no word on the potential for updated travel time improvements yet.
