A teenager who drowned in Gun Lake earlier this month has been identified.
Kaden Smith, 16, a student at Portage Northern High School, was the victim of the drowning. On August 12, Smith went under the water, but did not re-emerge, according to reports. Officials searched for more than 36 hours and Smith’s body was eventually recovered, according to the Michigan State Police.
Crews from multiple counties helped in the search.
Smith’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs. Any remaining funds will go to setting up a scholarship in Smith’s name for graduating seniors at Portage Northen and Central high schools
