Nicholas James “Nick” Cottin, age 36, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, at his home.
He was born December 28, 1989, in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of James and Sherri (Dunn) Cottin.
Nick was a lifelong resident of Sturgis and a proud graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 2008. He had been employed in the family business at Cottin’s Hardware in Sturgis, where he enjoyed working with his family.
Nick was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears.
Nick had a special love for children and was happiest when he was surrounded by them. He was always patient, kind, and understanding, and was someone children could count on. He was always willing to listen, spend time with them, and offer his love and support. His caring nature and genuine love for children were among the qualities that made him so special to those who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, James Cottin of Sturgis and Sherri and Jeff Smith of Bronson; brother, Kevin (Jami) Cottin of Lawrence, Kansas; his beloved nephew, Ollie Cottin, whom he adored; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In honoring the family’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial graveside service and burial of his cremated remains will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at a later date.
Memorial donations would be appreciated to the charity of one’s choice.
