An Athens man was rescued from a burning car on Friday in Calhoun County.
The man, 42, sustained “multiple critical head injuries” stemming from a two-vehicle crash involving a 14-year-old Battle Creek teen who was driving.
The Athens man was transported to Bronson Kalamazoo Hospital for treatment.
The teen boy was the driver in a vehicle including multiple other juveniles, witnesses told the Michigan State Police. The driver and another juvenile were transported to Bronson Hospital with multiple broken bone injuries. Two others fled on foot.
Troopers were dispatched to the intersection of M-66 and B Drive South in Leroy Township Friday before 12:30 a.m. Following the crash, Troopers with the assistance of an unknown Good Samaritan pulled the Athens man from his burning vehicle. He was unconscious but breathing. Police said he did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.
