The City of Three Rivers is getting a bit of a boost for its local groves.
On Tuesday, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced federally funded community tree grants. A total of 15 communities and areas were chosen for the grant as the community projects were announced by the DNR with more than $650,000 in total funds being awarded by the Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Grant Program.
Three Rivers will receive $75,000 for public tree planting and care to replace trees lost to the tornado and bad weather back in the spring.
The grantees will collectively plant and care for more than 1,200 trees, create inventories of city trees and develop plans to sustainably manage more than 2,000 public trees, according to the DNR.
Other communities receiving grants include Albion, Benton Harbor and Charlotte.
