A body originally located in mid-August in Volinia Township has been identified by authorities.
Detectives from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police announced the news on Thursday morning.
Authorities said Amber Star Laylin, 40, of Niles has been identified as the deceased.
Authorities last month said they were investigating a body found in a farm field in the area of McKenzie and Churchill streets. The landowner met with authorities and notified them of a badly decomposed body in a field.
The Michigan State Police Crime Lab was called in to assist on scene. The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office were both helping in the investigation as well.
Authorities are still trying to piece together what happened with this suspicious situation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office by calling at 269-445-1560.
