County to receive state aid for severe weather

A handful of local counties are getting some relief funds from the government as part of a state disaster relief.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer approved nearly $7 million in assistance for multiple communities which were impacted by severe spring and winter storms. Flooding, tornadoes and a water main break were all part of the disaster relief funding.

The funds are being made to communities through the Disaster and Emergency Contingency Fund, which provides financial assistance to local governments which need some extra help.

Branch, Cass and St. Joseph counties are set to receive $547,944 to help cover costs associated with the severe storms and tornadoes which occurred in March.

Four (4) tornadoes were produced during those storms which damaged homes and businesses. Four (4) people died as a result, including three (3) adults in Union City and a 12-year-old Cass County resident.
