Kathleen Kay “Susie” Hensell, age 87, of Constantine, passed away on September 4, 2026 in Sturgis.
Susie was born on August 3, 1939 in Three Rivers, the daughter of Franklin and Mary Keith. She lived a life marked by devotion to her family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of community and country living.
Susie was united in marriage to Jack Hensell, and together they shared a life centered on family and farming. She took great pride in her home and in the work that came with rural life. Farming was not simply a livelihood to her, but a way of life that reflected her strong work ethic.
Family was the heart of Susie’s life. She is survived by her husband, Jack Hensell; her son, Robert Hensell and his wife, Karen; her grandchildren, Sierra and Kayla Hensell; and her brother, Tom Keith. She cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and she found great joy in the love and accomplishments of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Mary Keith; her brothers, Bud Keith and Dan Keith; her sisters-in-law, Reta Keith and Ann Keith; and her sisters, Pat Eastes, and Peggy Gage. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she carried the bonds of family with her always.
Susie was also known for her involvement in the community and the interests she enjoyed over the years. She was an active supporter of St. Joe County 4-H and the St. Joe Valley Old Engine Club, organizations that reflected her appreciation for youth, heritage, and the values of rural life. In her younger years, she was part of a card club and a women’s club, where she enjoyed friendship, conversation, and the fellowship of others.
The family of Susie would like to thank the employees of The Sparrow House, The Hospice Team and their residents who were so kind to our mother during her days there. Your friendship, compassion and kindness towards her made her stay much more comfortable and easier for her to accept. You were there for her during the time we could not be and that means so much to us.
Above all else, Susie loved her family. She never came across a stranger as she always knew someone who knew her, family, or friends. Her life was a testament to loyalty, strength, and quiet kindness. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her steadfast nature, and the meaningful life she lived among those she loved. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish the time they shared with her.
Susie’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Eley Funeral Home, 235 W. Burr Oak St., Centreville, MI 49032.
