Members of the Three Rivers community are looking to save the Beacon Health and Fitness center. It was announced last week the facility would be closing, but a petition was created in an attempt to keep it open. Members of the petition group are looking to explore other options before shutting the doors permanently.
Last week, Beacon said it was a tough decision to close the facility. It mentioned the decision came after years of exploring a variety of ways to keep the facility going. Despite the efforts, which included an attempt to grow memberships and expand programming, the center was simply not generating enough revenue.
The petition says closing the doors for good would leave plenty of people in the community without a comparable local facility.

What other options are they looking at? Or is this just something to forestall the inevitable. When my wife and I were members the only thing keeping it afloat was AAM. When they quit paying for employee memberships that was really the beginning of the end.
Even under insurance covered fitness programs such as Golden Sneakers, there’s no in-county provider. It’s an easy way to get federal /state healthcare service points aka more $$$ without actually providing the service. It forces patients and people to their online virtual fitness where they once again can additional $$$, knowing most insured elderly and chronic health patients cannot use such programs, needing hands on supervision by real people.
