The St. Joseph County Road Commission announced Wednesday they are aware of a paving company in the area which is falsely claiming to have been hired.
According to officials, the paving company is claiming to have been hired by the road commission and are offering to pave driveways with excess materials from projects.
The road commission said Lakeland Asphalt Company was awarded the bid for the house paving projects while Reith Riley was awarded the bid for the federal aid job on Lutz Road. The commission said it is rare for contractors to have excess materials after a paving job and any surplus would be returned to the asphalt plant for use in different projects.
The commission is recommending residents to exercise due diligence when selecting a company to perform work on their property. If you have questions regarding any of this, you can contact the road commission directly at 269-467-6393.
