Southern Michigan Bank and Trust (SMBT) is continuing its investment in the Portage and Kalamazoo market with plans to open a new full-service banking office at 3900 West Centre Avenue. In partnership with AVB, SMBT is currently undergoing renovations before opening to customers in the first quarter of 2027.
Strategically located in Woodbridge Hills, the new office will complement Southern’s existing Portage branch on the corner of Kilgore and Westnedge, expanding convenience and accessibility for personal, business, and wealth management customers throughout the area.
The new branch will include:
• A full-service retail banking office
• Two drive-thru banking lanes
• A dedicated lane featuring an ATM/Personal Teller Machine (PTM), and night depository services
• Offices for Branch Staff, Lenders, Wealth Management Advisors, Treasury Management and Municipal Banking
“For more than 150 years, Southern has grown by making long-term investments in the communities we serve,” said SMBT President and CEO John Waldron. “Portage and Kalamazoo continue to be an important part of our growth strategy, and this new location demonstrates our commitment to the future of the region. We’re excited to expand our presence and continue helping individuals, families, and businesses achieve their financial goals.”
Additional details regarding renovations, staffing, and the official grand opening celebration will be announced as they become available.
