Sturgis looking to bring new healthcare services to former hospital building

When Sturgis Hospital closed earlier this year, it made shockwaves around the county and Southwest Michigan. Now, Sturgis city leaders are looking at reviving healthcare services at the building.

Possible solutions are being sought for the property, according to Interim City Manager Doug Terry. Officials have been able to reach out to new healthcare providers which might have an interest in serving a community like Sturgis, according to officials.

The hospital has been empty since the June closure, ending more than a century of operations.

Many in Sturgis have concerns about their being a lack of hospital services in town. This has forced them to make the drive elsewhere for medical coverages, it also leads to a delay in care.

Several possible providers are being considered by hospital personnel. They will continue to investigate possible leads from healthcare organizations and seek opportunities.
