Last week, the Sturgis City Commission agreed to release findings from an independent investigation from a board resolution back in May.
The investigation involved the review of meetings, email and text messages held by various commissioners, it also included discussions held among them. These were outside of a public forum regarding complaints brought by a city employee.
The independent probe was done by Miller Johnson. The results of which were presented to TJ Reed, the city’s attorney. The report explored whether a violation had occurred from the open meetings act beginning back in March. Ultimately, the investigation revealed NO violation had occurred from the meeting’s act.
The findings did suggest, however, continued education of commissioners in regards to city employment policies and procedures for employee complaints in general.
