The White Pigeon varsity football team has played its final game of the 2026 season.
In a move announced late Tuesday, White Pigeon school officials said they will be forgoing the remainder of the 2026 varsity football season. Athletic Director Brooke Baechler said it was a difficult decision for everyone involved, but player numbers, player safety, and competitiveness all went into the decision.
Underclassmen — freshmen, sophomores and juniors — will be allowed to play a Junior Varsity schedule once White Pigeon finds games. Baechler did say the three seniors on White Pigeon’s team could see action on the field once again, provided the opponents agree to allow it.
White Pigeon was 0-3 this season and had been out-scored 156-0 in those contests.
School officials said they are planning to have a season in 2027. They also said community support for the team this year had been a positive one.
