Brush pickup scheduled in Sturgis

Citywide brush pickup is set to begin in Sturgis this coming week.

Monday features the opening day of brush pickup in the city and the Department of Public Services will begin collection on the north side of the city this year. Only one pass is being made through the city, officials said.

Brush pickup is separate from leaf collection. That is scheduled to take place later in October. Brush is expected to be stacked on the terrace, clear of all obstructions. Officials said if brush is not properly placed, it will not be picked up. The maximum length of 8 feet and a diameter of 4 inches for branches and limbs is going to be enforced.

Grass clippings, roots, branches bearing thorns, tree stumps and trunks and construction materials will not be collected. There is also a limit of a single truck load per parcel.

City officials also cited the compost site located on Fawn River Road to city members who are not able to meet the requirements for pickup or those who simply have not been able to collect it in time. The compost site closes for the season officially on November 24.
