Tolbert Arrested For Shooting

Four firearms-related charges have been filed against a Flowerfield Township woman who allegedly shot her husband in the upper torso Monday night.

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department officials said Connie Tolbert, 54, was taken into custody after she allegedly shot her husband, 52-year-old Darryl Tolbert, at their residence. He is the pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in Three Rivers.

His wife was arraigned in District Court Tuesday and bond was set at $50,000 cash surety, court officials said. She spent Tuesday night in jail but her status Wednesday was not able to be substantiated.

She faces charges of discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a firearm, careless discharge of a firearm and discharging a weapon.

Her husband was released from a Kalamazoo hospital Tuesday.
