Carolyn Ingersoll, 97

Carolyn B. Ingersoll, age 97, of Marcellus, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Silver Maples Meadows facility in Chelsea, MI.

She was born August 30, 1926 in Port Jervis, NY to the late Cassius Ray and Irene Inez (Worden) Blasiar. Carolyn graduated salutatorian from Port Jervis High School in 1944, and went on to earn a BA from The University of Michigan in 1948, with a degree in social work and psychology. After graduating, she worked as both a social worker and psychiatric research assistant in Detroit. On July 8, 1950, Carolyn married Charles M. Ingersoll, Jr., and soon thereafter moved to Marcellus, beginning 62 years of marriage and memories. As an educator and lifelong learner, she received a teaching certificate from Western Michigan University to teach English at Marcellus High School. Her interests included travel, art, reading and research. Carolyn traveled extensively with her husband Chuck, as they visited all 50 states and 7 continents. Their travels allowed her to fulfill her love of collecting art from around the world. Her extensive collection of books was another source of joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Ingersoll, Jr., her sister Emily E. Strain, and her son Robert R. Ingersoll. Carolyn is survived by her sons Richard C. Ingersoll (Sharon), Thomas F. Ingersoll, MD (Marianne), her daughter Amy I. Hazelwood (Thomas), 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A private family memorial service was held at Bly Cemetery in Marcellus, where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 62 years. Memorials made in Carolyn’s memory may be directed to the Marcellus Township Wood Memorial Library.

    She was a lovely lady and such a fabulous addition to the village of Marcellus..I had her for a teacher and Mr. Ingersoll was such a kind man…We all loved Ingersoll Pharmacy where they went above and beyond service to the community…I’m sure it is greatly missed to this day…They had a wonderful family that the entire community loved,too❤…Condolences and hugs to the family.
