Clarence Hay, 96

Clarence Hay, age 96, formerly of 509 Constantine St., died Nov. 1, 1991 at the Three Rivers Manor.

He was born Aug. 20, 1895 in Hurshtown, Ind., the son of James and Hannah J. (Hursh) Hay.

He attended schools in that area and later moved to Three Rivers.

On Oct. 10, 1917 he married Alice May Pierce in Centreville. She survives.

Hay served in the U.S. Army during World War I, spending some time in front line combat in France.

He had been employed by Sheffield Car Company, Fairbanks-Morse and Weyerhaeuser Company, and retired in 1960.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Howard Hay, Robert Hay, Roland Hay, all of Three Rivers and Allan Hay of Port Richey, Fla.; one daughter, Joyce Rumsey, Three Rivers; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Richard; one brother and one sister.

Relatives and friends may call at the Halverson Chapel, Three Rivers, where family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Halverson Chapel with the Pastor Roland Barkow of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
