This Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30, Three Rivers will celebrate “Christmas Around Town”. Many of the downtown merchants will be open both days in observance of this annual event. Santa Claus will make an appearance, along with some of his reindeer. In support of this event, the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority (CTA) will offer free rides throughout the downtown area. This will give everyone an opportunity to experience, first hand, the personal service provided by the CTA. The CTA is the only public transportation service available in St. Joe County, and ridership is growing everyday. If you’ve never gotten Out and About via the CTA, this would be the perfect opportunity to do just that. Watch for the bus with the Langley Covered Bridge on it and climb aboard for a FREE ride.
Thursday is Thanksgiving. Gather with friends and family, have a hearty meal, watch a little football, take a well-deserved nap and, above all, give thanks for your many blessings. Remember, there’s always someone else with more problems and hardships than you have.
The Trinity Episcopal Church, 321 North Main Street, in Three Rivers invites all local turkey fans to their 17th Annual Free Thanksgiving Eve Dinner. Thanksgiving Eve is tomorrow, and this delicious meal will be served from 4 to 6 P.M. at the church. A donation box will be available for those wishing to contribute. The menu will consist of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, corn, pickled beets, cranberry relish, rolls, and for dessert, pie. Volunteers, who lst year served over 100 meals, will host the dinner. Because of this pre-Thanksgiving dinner, the regular free weekly soup pot, which normally happens every Tuesday and Thursday, will not take place Thanksgiving week. The volunteers also remind everyone that the dinner isn’t just for the less fortunate. It is for anyone who enjoys the combination of a good meal and the opportunity to socialize with neighbors and friends. For more information, phone the church at 273-3795.
Gray’s Community Band will present a Christmas concert next Sunday afternoon, November 30, at 3, at the Riviera Theatre, in historic downtown Three Rivers. Featured selections will include “ ‘T’was the Night Before Christmas”, narrated by Brian Shetterly, “Theme from Schindler’s List”, and “Flight of the Bumble Bee”. Heather Bartow will also lead an audience Holiday sing-along. In honor of those serving in the Armed Forces, the band will also perform “Semper Fidelis”. As with every Gray’s Community Band concert, refreshments will be available after the concert and admission is, of course, free, although donations are always gratefully welcome. Director Andrew Hagenbuch reminds everyone that the band is always looking for new members. For more information, please call 244-1014.
At many Thanksgiving tables, people often express what they are most thankful for at this time in their lives. If someone were to ask me, I’d have to say that I am most thankful to live in the Three Rivers area and to have a wonderful wife and family that make my life worth living. Great friends are the icing on the cake.
Have a great Thanksgiving, and I’ll see you Out and About!
