Harriet E. Reed, age 83, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Marshall, Mich., a daughter to the late Ardey and Minnie (Coats) Reniger.
Harriet has been a resident of Sturgis since 1960 moving here from Marshall.
On April 19, 1943, in Marshall, she married Donald R. Reed. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1993.
Harriet had been employed by Win-Schuler’s Restaurant while living in Marshall and by Trans-o-Gram while residing in Sturgis. She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Reed and Donald (Janet) Reed, both of Sturgis; one daughter, Penny (Harry) Alvey of Farr, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kim Williams, Kris Wolfe, Chris McDonald, Kevin McDonald, Don S. Reed, Robert Reed, and Thomas Reed; 12 great-grandchildren, Alesha, Kegan, Garbrial, Jenna, Celestine, Guinevere, Alex, Morgan, Hannah, Aaron, Karrson, and Kaylin; one great-great-grandchild, Toby; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; three sisters, and daughter-in-law, Dee Reed in March 2007.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral services celebrating the life of Harriet Reed will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home with The Rev. Robert Keim, First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Capt. John J. Kelley V.F.W. Post #1355 or the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
