Jerry Kaluzny, 79

Gerald Anthony “Jerry” Kaluzny, age 79 of Mendon, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. 

He was born in Detroit on Aug. 5, 1929, the son of the late Albert and Mary (Fary) Kalauzny and attended schools in the Detroit area. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He then married Jeanette Poteau on Nov. 25, 1954 in Wayne, Mich.  Jeanette died in 2007.

Jerry owned and operated Jerry’s Marathon in Plymouth before going to work for Bendix Aerospace.  He worked as a mechanic for Ford Motor Company for 20 years, retiring to Mendon in 1990.  In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed yard work, landscaping, and bird watching.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  Jerry was a member of the Mendon Kiwanis Club and St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon.

Jerry is survived by three children, Tami Kaluzny of Mendon, Brian Kaluzny (Margaret) and Nadine Baker (Glenn), all of Mattawan;  six grandchildren, Rachael, Carolyn, and Karl Kaluzny, and Janell, Abbie, and Ben Baker;  one sister, Dolores Larson (Norman) of Wayne; two nieces and two nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. There will be a Scripture Service at held 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Rev. Father James Vinh Le officiating.  Burial will be in St. Edward Cemetery with military honors. 

Memorials may be directed to either, The Mendon Kiwanis Club, St. Edward Catholic Church, or Southwest Michigan Hospice.
