John Foghino, 72

John Jay Foghino, age 72 of Three Rivers, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his home. He was born in Three Rivers on March 5, 1937 the son of Charles and Florence (Howard) Foghino, and was a lifetime resident of Three Rivers. He was a graduate of Three Rivers High School and was recently inducted into the Three High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

John has been an independent truck driver for the past 37 years and was a former Teamster whose CB handle was “The Spaghetti Bender”. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge, and was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge #2303 all of Three Rivers. Until recently, he took care of the grounds-keeping for the Eagles’ Trap Shoot. John was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed playing golf, and watching NASCAR races.

John was married to Diane (Eckhart) Presley on July 7, 2007. She survives along with 4 children, Jeffrey Foghino and James Foghino (Nannette) both of Mendon, Jody Timm (David) of Three Rivers, and Judy Richardson (Rodney) of Centreville; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children, Michael Green (Rhonda), Thomas Green (Christy) and Erin Rowe all of Elkhart, and Jodie Okoniewski of White Pigeon; 6 step-grandchildren; his mother, Florence “Thelma” Foghino of Portage; his twin brother, James Foghino (Eileen) of Niles; brother, Thomas Foghino (Jean) of Kalamazoo; sister, Daisy Metzelaars of Portage; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles in 1979.

Cremation has been conducted. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Three Rivers Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Robert Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to the Three Rivers Eagles Lodge #2303 to be used for community projects.
