Naomi R. Steffey, 98, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away March 3, 2009, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born Jan. 20, 1911, in Decatur, Ind., a daughter to the late Edward Edwin and Edith (Dean) Gilbert.
Naomi had resided in Sturgis since 1951 coming from Bronson, Mich.
She retired from the American Red Cross following many years of dedicated service and employment as office manager of the Sturgis and Centreville offices. Prior to joining the Red Cross she had been employed several years as a floor lady at M&R Laboratories in Sturgis.
She was a member of the Sturgis Church of Christ and was a staunch Democrat.
She is survived by one son, R. Dean Amos of East Windsor, Conn.; three grandchildren, Joel David Amos of San Diego, Calif., Lauri Jean Warble of St. Louis, Mo., and Lindy Arpante of Brooklyn, NY; two nephews, David Morse of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dennis Morse of Jenison, Mich.
Her parents; one brother; and one sister preceded her in death.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Naomi Steffey will be held and announced at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
