Welcome to March 2009. The first two months of this year will not be forgotten soon. Let’s hope that this month will definitely march us into the spring season. As the weather turns warmer, it’s so nice to see the more energetic out walking their dogs or running with their i-pods. Then there are some of us who get the most enjoyment out of just sitting on the deck and watching the clouds drift by.
Riverside Cemetery is a great place to stretch the legs. It’s quiet and as soon as things start to bloom, it can be quite picturesque. Here’s a reminder though: dogs aren’t permitted to accompany you as you stroll through Riverside. Those interested in adding to the beauty of Riverside Cemetery might want to consider contributing to one of the several memorial funds, including the General, Tree, and Bench Funds. All three are in need of money, and it will most assuredly be put to good use. Stop by the Finance Office at City Hall, on West Michigan Avenue, in Three Rivers and someone will be glad to answer your questions.
Spring Break will soon be upon us, which means that some of you will do some traveling. You might want to consider making a list of all the credit cards you carry, along with the telephone numbers and serial numbers listed on them. In case your wallet or purse is stolen, you can call the following numbers and give them the necessary information that might help in the recovery of these items. Here are the numbers: Equifax – 1-800-525-6285; Experian (formerly TRW) – 1-888-397-3742; Trans Union – 1-800-680-7289, and the Social Security Administration fraud line – 1-800-269-0271. A final helpful hint is to keep this list somewhere other than in your wallet. Thank you, Tracy, for your helpful idea.
Starting this past Saturday, February 28, Three Rivers 6 Movie Theaters is offering free spring matinees every Saturday and Sunday at 10 and 11 A.M. These free matinees will run through April 26. All movies are family oriented and it’s another thing to do as a family. You can’t beat the price. Some of the movies you’ll see are SPACE CHIMPS, MADAGASCAR 2, IGOR, KUNG FU PANDA, HORTON HEARS A WHO, TALE OF DESPEREAUX, OPEN SEASON, and HOTEL FOR DOGS. The line-up will also be listed on the website at www.GQTI.com. For more information, you may contact Three Rivers 6 at 279-8300
Thank you, Danielle, for bringing the Glenn Miller Orchestra to the Riviera Theatre in historic downtown Three Rivers. It was definitely a memorable experience. Thank you also to friends Mattie and Clarice. The string of pearls meant a lot.
Here are some final ways to cut your utility bill:
- Take showers instead of baths. You’ll use less hot water.
- Keep your refrigerator and freezer full. Use 2-liter bottles filled with water if necessary.
- Keep windows on the south side clean to let in the winter sun.
To close the column for this week, here’s another use for coffee filters. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
Every sunny day without snow is a bonus. Six months from now, we’ll wish we had the cool temperatures that greet us each morning.
See you Out and About!
