Gene Curtis Pumfrey, age 63 of Three Rivers, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on January 26, 1946 the son of George and Betty (DeRou) Pumfrey and attended Kalamazoo schools. Gene served in the U.S. Army in both Viet Nam and Germany.
He was married to Bobbie Grubenhoff on Dec. 27, 1976 in Newport, KY. They have resided in Three Rivers since 1981, coming from Kalamazoo. He had most recently been employed by American Metal Fab. Gene loved fishing, watching NASCAR events, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; 3 children, Shawn Pumfrey, Gene Pumfrey, Jr., and Dennis Pumfrey all of Three Rivers; 2 grandchildren, Airiana Pumfrey and Blue Pumfrey; 1 sister, Sharon Colwell (Rod); and 1 cousin, Bob Lee (Juanita) all of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 brothers, George and Dennis Pumfrey.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Eickhoff, Farrand, Halverson Chapel in Three Rivers where funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, with Chaplain Barbara Van Eck of Borgess VNA and Hospice officiating. Military interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at 2:00 p.m. Memorials will be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.efhchapel.com
