Barbara Jean Allen, age 33, of Mendon, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at her home following a long illness. She was born in Three Rivers on Dec. 12, 1975, and was the daughter of Roger and Nancy (Smith) Allen. Barbara attended the Pathfinder School in Centreville, where she was a cheerleader for the Special Olympics. She also worked at ARCH Workshop in Sturgis and briefly at McDonalds in Three Rivers. Barbara loved to ride horses, and showed the family horse, Sundance, at the County Fair. She enjoyed playing video games, listening to music and singing.
Barbara is survived by her mother and step-father, Nancy & Jon Crabtree of Mendon; 7 siblings, Brenda Austin (Carl), and Lori Higgins (Greg) of Mendon, Kathy Dahl (John) of Arizona, Mike Allen of Los Angeles, Dan Allen (Judy) if Killeen, TX, Ashley Allen of Kalamazoo, and Scott Allen of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Allen.
The family will received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Chuck Lambdin, Pastor of the Crossroads Missionary Church officiating. Burial will be in Dutton Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to the Special Olympics, or the Borgess VNA & Hospice.
