Erma Oletha Huffsmith, age 89, of Constantine, formerly Three Rivers, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the home of her sister surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Nov. 2, 1919, in Lockport Twp., Three Rivers, the daughter of Boyd H. and Edith (Fairchild) Slack.
Mrs. Huffsmith graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1938. Mrs. Huffsmith was employed by J.C. Penny Company, Doc Foundry and also R.M. Kelloggs Nursery for many years.
She truly enjoyed gardening, playing dominos, and her home in Yuma, Mich. where she spent many years. She was also a member of the Florence Twp. Woman’s Club and attended the Constantine Methodist Church.
Mrs. Huffsmith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn M. whom she married on Aug. 4, 1951, in Angola, Ind.; one brother, Boyd “Bud” Slack; and two nephews, Walt Rogers and Gordon Bera.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving sister, Darlene Slack (Glenn) Bergener, of Constantine; four nieces, Brenda Slack (Tim) Maxwell, Lucy Burgener (Daniel) Grindel, Corrine Burgener (Kirt) Myers, Jacquelyn Bera; three nephews, Martin Burgener, Kenneth (Suzanne) Burgener, and Michael (Deanna) Slack; sister-in-law, Dorothy Slack; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and cousins, James (Thelma) Fairchild and Lola Fairchild Musser.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Hohner Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hohner Funeral Home, with Rev. Melanie Young officiating.
Interment will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Three Rivers.
