Myrna Fry, 98

Myrna I. Fry, age 98, of Edwardsburg, Mich., and a former Sturgis and Bronson resident, passed away Sunday morning, May 17, 2009, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis.

She was born June 25, 1910, in Madison Township, Branch County, Mich., a daughter to the late Charles and Daisy (Sharp) Auten.

Myrna had resided in Cassopolis for the past 14 years, prior to that she had lived in Edwardsburg for 15 years to be closer to her daughter and she had lived for many years in the Sturgis and Bronson area.

On December 6, 1942, she married Hugh E. Fry in Detroit,  where she and Mr. Fry were employed at Willow Run an Ypsilanti military facility that built aircraft during World War II. He died June 20, 1976.

Following 31 years of dedicated employment with the Kirsch Company in Sturgis, she retired in June of 1972, from department No. 7. During her years with the Kirsch Company she was an active member of the United Auto Workers Local No. 797. She attended the Porter Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Harman of Edwardsburg; three grandsons, Michael Hugh Harman of Fort Wayne, Ind., Scott Thomas (Pam Thaxton) Harman of Edwardsburg and James Gregory Harman of Elkhart, Ind.; great grandchildren, Samantha J. Harman, Axel S. Harman, Austin J. Harman and Hailey S. Harman; nieces, Mary (Auten) Osborn, Janice (Summey) Vaughn, Marjorie (Summey) Collins and Sandra (Auten) Benis; nephews, Dalton Summey, Jerry Summey, David Summey and Dennis Auten.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Wilma Summey, Essie Eileen Roberto and Rhea Auten; brothers, Berl Auten and Leo Auten.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Myrna I. Fry will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Groda, chaplin of In House Hospice will officiate.

A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
