Wally Post, 61

William E. “Wally” Post Jr., age 61, of Portage, Mich., and formerly of Sturgis and Burr Oak, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.

He was born July 2, 1947, in Sturgis, a son of the late William E. and Jannete (Haskins) Post.

Wally was a Sturgis and Burr Oak area resident most of his life except for the past 15 years, when he resided in Portage.

He had been employed as a professor at Western Michigan University where he taught sociology and had also worked as a database specialist for Walwood on the WMU campus.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, photography, computers, and was an avid reader of science fiction novels.

Surviving are two daughters, Andrea (Matt) Bunker of Indian River  and Jessica (Shawn) Bunker of Afton; nine grandchildren, Nick, Renae, Morgan, Noah, Shayne, Hope, Hannah, Muriah and Braylin; and a brother, Steve (Sally) Post of Sturgis.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; and a daughter, Muriah Post, in 1996.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road in Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of William “Wally” Post will be held at noon Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Deb Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family or to the American Lymphoma Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
