Cecelia M. Madison (‘Cel’) Prescott, age 91, of Three Rivers, passed away on June 26, 2009 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo, MI. Born on June 16, 1918, the first daughter of Edward and Lucretia Madison in New Orleans, LA.. The family soon moved to Chicago, IL. Where she spent her childhood. Two sisters followed her, baby Evelyn, who died in infancy, and Edie, who continued with her through life. As a child she mingled with many cousins because the family was large and loving.
Cecelia always enjoyed a thirst for learning, especially science, and graduated from McKinley High School. A few years later, she met and married Myles E. Prescott and from that union were born two sons, Marcus, who died at birth and Myles, Jr., deceased in February, 2008.
During her lifetime, Cel was employed by Mary Thompson Hospital in Chicago for many years. She retired from there in the late 60’s. After that she found fulfillment in helping others, always generous and caring with her family, friends, church and community.
The last years of her life were spent in Three Rivers, MI. where she was well known all around town for her high energy and positive attitude wherever she went. People who knew her loved her. They particularly admired how devoted she was to care of Myles, Jr. who spent many years in Heartland Health Care Center. Amazing in her continual quest for knowledge, Cel remained a faithful watcher of CNN to keep her abreast of all the news of the day.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister Edie M. Moore; nieces Rosalind (Charles) Thurston, Veronique Moore, Darlene (Rodney) Conklin, Jennefer (Tony Smith) Tunstall, Emani Tunstall; nephews, Paul Thurston, Sr., Peter Thurston, Philip Thurston, Perron (Debbie) Thurston, Jason Tunstall; Omari Thurston, Paul Thurston, Jr., Isaac and Eli Thurston, Myles Staples; and many friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Mark Vyverman as celebrant.
Interment of Cremains will be held in Riverside Cemetery.
