Robert A. Evans Sr., age 68, of Sturgis, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, July 14, 2009, at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Copemish, a son of the late Floyd and Emma (Salton) Evans.
Bob had resided in Sturgis since 1972, coming from Constantine. His early life was lived in Copemish and he graduated from Mesick High School with the class of 1959.
On Aug. 29, 1962, he married Sue Stotenbur in Tucson, Ariz.
Most of Bob’s working life was involved in the recreational vehicle industry. He retired from Viking RV in Centreville following 20 years of employment.
He enjoyed his hobby farm, gardening, hunting, cutting wood, feeding his hummingbirds and riding four-wheelers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue; three sons, James (Teresa) Evans of Bronson, Mark (Tami) Evans of Mesick and Robert Evans Jr. of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Amy, Corey, Jennifer, Kayla, Crystal, Carie, Robert III, Michelle, Branson, Zoe, Zachary and Rylee; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Benson of Mesick, Freda Barney of Wayland and Marion Ruth of Hanceville, Ala.; two brothers, Dale Evans of Copemish and Paul Evans of Mesick; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and a sister, Janis Hayes, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Mr. Evans will be transported to the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services celebrating the life of Robert Evans Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bruce Rose will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Cleon Township Cemetery.
