David Crissman, 46

David M. Crissman, 46, of Sturgis, Mich., passed away Aug. 1, 2009, at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Mich., following a long, hard-fought battle with diabetes.

He was born Oct. 2, 1962, in Sturgis, Mich., a son to Richard and Beverly (Smith) Crissman.
David was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduated from Sturgis High School with the class of 1980 and attended Glen Oaks Community College.

He had been employed as a security guard at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis.

David was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post #73 and was past Detachment Commander 1984-1985 and served as a member of the Alternate National Executive Committee. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #1314, St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman’s Club, the National Rifle Association and was proud to serve on the Tri-Township Fire Department.

He enjoyed participating in local pool leagues and was an avid sports fan of the University of Michigan.

David is survived by his mother, Beverly Crissman of Sturgis; aunt, Alice Crissman of Toledo, Ohio; uncles, Robert Smith of Ocala, Fla. and Ronald Crissman of Framingham, Mass. and many cousins

He was preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral services celebrating the life of David Crissman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Keim, Chaplin of the Sturgis Fire Department will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Sturgis Memorial Gardens in Sturgis.
