Harold Shufelt, 81

Harold D. Shufelt, 81, of Burr Oak, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at his home.

Harold was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Gilead Township to Herman and Kathryn (Royer) Shufelt.

He married Mary Alward in 1951 in LaGrange, Ind. She preceded him in death in 2002.

Mr. Shufelt served in the U.S. Army as a field radio repairman and was a veteran of the Korean War. He loved farming, which he did his entire life, along with driving trucks for Arver Farms for 20 years.

Harold attended Pleasant Hill Missionary Church and was a life member and past master of the Burr Oak, Sturgis and Bronson Masonic Lodges, and also past patron of the O.E.S. He served on the Noble Township Board for 35 years, acting as both trustee and clerk. Harold was a skilled woodworker and loved antique machinery, especially steam engines.

Surviving are his son, Michael (Donna) Shufelt of Sturgis; his daughter, Sue Hart of Burr Oak; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Karolyn, Ronnie and Kevin; five great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Betty Priest of Sturgis.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one infant brother and one infant sister.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson. Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Chruch in Bronson with Pastor Cory Weatherton officaiating. Interment will follow at Trayer Cemetery in Noble Township.

Memorials may be directed to the Veteran’s Hospital in Ann Arbor or the Pleasant Hill Missionary Church.
