Cheryl Towne, 64

Cheryl Lynne Towne, age 64, of Three Rivers, passed away on August 19, 2009 at her home in Portage, MI. following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.  She was born on Jan. 19, 1945 in Battle Creek, MI. the daughter of Henry F. and Jeanne E. (Fechler) Trudgeon.

Cheryl  graduated from Portage Central High School in 1963, and later attended Ferris State University.  In May of 1967 she was united in marriage to the love of her life James R. Towne.  They spent several years in Kalamazoo where Cheryl worked as a travel agent before moving to Three Rivers in 1975 with her family.  She retired from American Electric Power after 30 years of service.

Cheryl was an excellent golfer who excelled at a young age, winning a junior tournament at age eleven.  She played throughout her life spending many enjoyable rounds at the Elks Golf Course and Sauganash Golf Club .  She was awarded her first hole-in-one in 1995.  She also loved bowling, cribbage, and playing bridge, and spending many Friday nights with her husband and  friends at the big round table at Frankie’s Restaurant.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James Ralph Towne.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children, Stephanie Lynn (Johnny) Lawson, of Mattawan, MI. and Michael James (Keely) Towne, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Kelsee Jean and Maxwell Scott Lawson, Hayden Ford Towne; sister, Candace Lee (Rev. James) Atchison;  one niece, Amy (Tobias) Bennett and their son, Andrew Bennett.

A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church of Three Rivers, with Rev. Dr. Jon Deily officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation.  Envelopes available at Hohner Funeral home or the church.
