Evelyn May Merritt, age 94, of Constantine, passed away Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 at her home. She was born in Benton Harbor, MI on June 16, 1915, the daughter of Henry and Lillie (Clark) Maynard. Evelyn graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1935. On On May 28, 1938 she married Lyle Merritt in Benton Harbor, MI.
Evelyn worked as a replacement packager at Simplicity Pattern in Niles, from which she retired. She enjoyed reading and traveling in Northern Michigan. Evelyn was a former member of the Eau Claire Grange.
Surviving Evelyn are her husband Lyle Merritt, Constantine, daughters Kay Merritt of Baldwin, Jeanne (Donald) Hirsch of Tustin, grandchildren Pamela Kublick, Stevensville, Vickie Golladay, Stevensville, Dara Ham, Stevensville, Kim Monroe, Kalamazoo, Tony Wissler, Oklahoma, Scott Wissler, Cassopolis and Kristin Austreng, Louisiana, many great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine, where Religious Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Scott Manning of the Constantine United Methodist Church officiating.
