Eleanor L. Gilchrist, 88, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. She was born March 13, 1921 in Indianapolis, Ind., a daughter of John and Gladys (Miles) Dailey and was a long time resident of Portage. Eleanor was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and her family was her focus.
On Oct. 9, 1943 she married Frank E. Gilchrist, who preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1991. She was also preceded by her parents; a brother, Jackie; a daughter, Patricia Kline; two sons, Michael Gilchrist and Timothy Gilchrist; and a grandson, Jason Kline. Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Colleen (William) Kline of Three Rivers; three grandchildren, Kimberly Kline (Micah) Peet, Patricia Gilchrist (Scott) Hess and Bill Gilchrist (Robin) Johnson; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Richardson of Kalamazoo and Donna Kyle of Indiana; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave. Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Pathfinder Center of Centreville or St. Catherine’s Church.
