Aileen Crossman, 96

Anne ‘Aileen’ Crossman, 96, of Ann Arbor and formerly of Sturgis, died Nov. 9, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Toronto, Canada, to Andrew and Annie (Riddell) Hutton. She married Herman Crossman and they moved to Sturgis to raise their family.

Aileen was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed being with her family.

She worked for the Kirsch Company in Sturgis and then for the Sturgis Public Library. After retirement she served her community for many years as a member of the Sturgis Public Library Board and on the Sturgis Memorial Hospital Guild. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Upon moving to Ann Arbor in 1999, she became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Aileen is survived by a son, Allen (Carol) Crossman of Wheaton, Ill.; a daughter, Barbara (Patrick) O’Donnell of Ann Arbor; six grandchildren, Susan (John) Roman, Pam (Tim) Ridinger, Amy (Dave) Sebesta, Greg Crossman, Brian (Kerry) O’Donnell and Kerri O’Donnell; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Victoria, Adam, and Samantha Roman, Ella, Gage and Bergan Ridinger, Henry, Katie and Lindsey Sebesta, Keegan, Brendan and Molly O’Donnell; and a sister Helen Sass of California.

Aileen was preceded in death by her husband in 1966; a son, Gregory, in 1968; two brothers, Terry and Robert; and two sisters Margaret and Effie.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
