Edward Johnson, 84

Edward Thomas Johnson, 84, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 in the Hamrick Home. Born July 30, 1925 in Saginaw, he graduated from Saginaw High School in 1943, Hillsdale College in 1951 and Western Michigan University in 1964. Edward proudly served in World War II Infantry as a Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious action in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1987, T.R.H.S. Hall of Fame in 1989, Past President of SCC, Elks BPOE 1248, American Legion #170, MEA/NEA, past President of the Okeechobee Home Owners Association, and past member of the Michigan High School Coaches Association.

He is preceded in death by mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hynes of Saginaw; brother, Alvin E. Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, Ronald Johnson and Raymond Johnson of Three Rivers.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Johnson; brothers, Robert Granzeier of Springfield, Ill.; son, Rick Johnson of Lake City, Fla.; grandchild, Kris Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla.; step-children, Malinda Estep, G. Keith Anderson, Gerry Anderson; step-grandchildren, Heidi Pucket, Sarah Paradis, A.J. Anderson, Ashlee Anderson, and Garrett Anderson.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 6 from 10-10:30 a.m. and following will be a Mass of the Resurrection in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Hugh Duffy officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973.
